Uniworld River Princess Captain’s Welcome Gala Dinner
Uniworld River Princess Captain’s Welcome Gala Dinner
Eastern Europe Explorer Danube River Cruise
One of the most memorable and delicious dinners onboard River Princess during our Eastern Europe Explorer river cruise was the Welcome Gala Dinner. Our evening was especially enjoyable as we were invited to be guests at the Captain’s table for the evening.
The event started in the lounge with the Captain’s Welcome Reception where we enjoyed cocktails with our fellow dining companions for the delicious 5-course meal.

The Welcome Gala menu started with an Amuse Bouche – compliments of the Chef.
The delicate Chef’s Beef Carpaccio was sprinkled with virgin olive oil, parmesan shavings and rocket salad.
From the soup tureen we enjoyed Asparagus Cappuccino with milk foam. This was paired with Gruner Veltliner Trio Gmeiner white wine – Austria 2009.
Next was a delicious “In Between” of Linguini all’ Aragosta with lobster, prawns and a prawn cracker.
A delicious Medallion of Roast Black Angus Beef with Morel sauce, fresh vegetables and Duchess potatoes was paired with Cabernet Sauvignon Gmeiner red wine – Austria 2011.
Note: For passengers that preferred fish for their entree, a Broiled Fillet of Butterfish with red wine butter sauce, served on Dijon mash with zucchini spaghetti was also on the menu.
Dessert was the River Princess Symphony – a trio consisting of a Valrhona chocolate slice, honeycomb ice cream, and cheese cake. A selection of cheeses was also available, and along with tea and coffee we enjoyed homemade sweet treats served at our table.
It was an entertaining evening of convivial and interesting conversation with 1st Captain Stefan Ivanov, Hotel Manager Silvia Sobotova, Cruise Manager Heiner Schmidt and fellow passengers.
After dinner some guests took to the dance floor in the lounge to the music of onboard musician Freddy. We decided to relax on the sun deck to enjoy the pleasant breeze as River Princess cruised towards the Bulgarian town of Vidin.
