Daily Itinerary ~ Day 4 – Avignon to Pont du Gard Aqueduct to Chateau Neuf du Pape

For early risers coffee and pastries were available in the Patio lounge between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.

An extensive hot-and-cold buffet breakfast was available in the Cezanne restaurant between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.

On the daily program, for those so inclined, there was a gymnastic session in the Renoir lounge with Madeleine at 8:00 a.m. We did go along to check it out around 8:30 a.m. but either it hadn’t happened or was already over.

At 9:00 a.m. all passengers who were joining the guided walking tour of Avignon and visit to the Pope’s Palace were with their guides and starting off on the 10-minute walk to the center of the old city. This tour lasted until noon and passengers had time to spend exploring the stalls of the indoor food market. For some passengers, this is where they left the guide and decided to spend lunchtime and the rest of the afternoon enjoying more of Avignon on their own. Others stayed with the group and walked back to the ship in time for lunch onboard.

By 12:15 p.m. we were enjoying the lunch buffet in the Cezanne restaurant before joining the optional tour to Pont du Gard Aqueduct and Chateauneuf du Pape. The afternoon optional tour departed at 1:30 p.m. and we were gone until approximately 6:00 p.m.

For those who were still aboard or had opted to explore more of Avignon in the afternoon, there were small sandwiches, pastries, tea and coffee available between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. in the Renoir lounge.

River Royale was underway by 6:30 p.m. sailing towards Viviers.

We met up with Tony in the Renoir lounge for a brief port talk before dinner as he explained to passengers that Viviers was going to be one of the most charming villages we would ever find in France.

Another delightful dinner was served in the Cezanne restaurant between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

After dinner we joined Hotel Manager, Eric Christophe in the Renoir lounge for a nautical lecture, in which he explained all about the goings-on of River Royale and Uniworld as a company. Everyone of the passengers that attended his lecture found it to be worthy of their time and incredibly interesting.

The remainder of the night was filled with reliving the day’s events in the lounge with fellow passengers as the onboard musician, Bill, played the night away on the piano.
