Daily Itinerary ~ Day 2 – Arles

As WJ had arrived in Arles a couple of days prior to joining River Royale we boarded the ship early (around noon). Upon checking-in we were fortunate enough that our cabin was ready and were escorted to it by Mario, one of the restaurant waiters (who did a wonderful job of explaining all the functions of equipment in the cabin). The nice thing with river cruise ships is that all of the crew chip in and do a variety of jobs in order for everything to run as smoothly as possible.

A light buffet lunch was available in the Renoir lounge – from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. –  for passengers to partake in, so we decided to grab a bite before exploring the rest of the ship.

After lunch, we investigated the ship from top to bottom and bow to stern – on such compact ships it doesn’t take too long to discover all she has to offer and there’s no getting lost.

At this point we had some free time and enjoyed relaxing and getting to know fellow passengers that had arrived. The first scheduled event at 6:00 p.m. was a Welcome & Safety Briefing, where some of the crew officers were introduced to passengers: 1st Captain, Pascal Rech; Hotel Manager, Eric Christophe; Cruise Manager, Tony Jenkins; Purser, Martina Dandas; Executive Chef, Roger Demmer; Restaurant Manager, Istvan Dandas. All passengers were required to attend the safety briefing presentation that was seriously and professionally delivered by Hotel Manager, Eric Christophe. Following these events there was a port talk by Cruise Manager, Tony Jenkins, to explain activities that would be coming up the next day.

At 7:00 p.m. it was time for dinner in the Cezanne restaurant, featuring a varied and delicious 4-course menu. Following dinner the onboard musician, Bill, played music in the Renoir lounge until the last passenger retired for the evening.

Upon returning to our cabin after dinner, we found the Daily Program placed on the bed – it provides passengers with a schedule of activities for the following day.

Note: Transfers are available through Uniworld – contact them for details.
