Verizon Jetpack® 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot Review

By WAVEJourney

Recently NETGEAR provided us with their new mobile hotspot to test and review. The Verizon Jetpack® 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot (AC791L) arrived just in time for us to test its network coverage while cruising the Columbia and Snake Rivers through Oregon and Washington. Next we took a 1,000-mile roadtrip through Oregon’s Outback and to Reno, Nevada. All the while, we were pleased with the exceptional performance, speed, and extensive Verizon network coverage throughout the areas we travelled. This Verizon mobile hotspot is the first of its kind to operate on their 4G LTE Advanced technologies, which will automatically switch to 3G when 4G isn’t available.

JETPACK PROS:

  • First Jetpack from Verizon that supports 4G LTE Advanced technologies.
  • Jetpack supports up to 15 WiFi-enabled devices simultaneously — smartphones, notebook and tablet computers, printers, cameras, e-book readers, etc.
  • Jetpack has the ability to automatically switch between 3G and 4G.
  • The removable Li-ion battery life is exceptional; lasts up to 24 hours or a month (650 hours) on standby.
  • Take your own personal and secure WiFi with you overseas – the Jetpack AC791L is a World Device™ for international use with coverage in over 200 countries.
  • International high-speed LTE roaming with Verizon partners overseas.

  • Includes wall/USB charger and cords.
  • NETGEAR AirCard App is free and available for Apple and Android.

JETPACK CONS:

  • A Verizon contract plan is required.
  • Verizon does not have pay-as-you-go plans available for this device.

DATA USAGE EXAMPLES:
Below are examples of what usage the Jetpack can get with a 5 GB data plan:

  • 3000 Emails
  • 1500 Hours of Web Access
  • 300 Minutes of Video Streaming
  • 60 Photo Uploads/Downloads

WHO WILL LIKE THE VERIZON JETPACK AC791L?

  • Ideal for anyone needing a secure WiFi connection: travellers; business people; students; vacation home owners; home renters.

BOTTOM LINE:

The Verizon Jetpack AC791L is ideal for anyone that wants to keep all their devices and gadgets connected through WiFi while they’re away from home. The Jetpack enables you to have your own safe and secure connection for all your web-based surfing/streaming needs; plus coverage in the USA through Verizon is one of the most extensive, and a Verizon contract is necessary to use this hotspot. For our use, we prefer a pay-as-you-go data plan, or one that will roll-over unused data from month-to-month – unfortunately Verizon doesn’t offer either of those options.

Note:
NETGEAR provided this item free of charge for WAVEJourney to test and review as part of their ambassador program. See our full disclosure statement to see that this has no effect on our opinions or reviews.
