Travel Tips, Tales, Deals and Steals September Newsletter
Greetings!
We hope you had a wonderful summer filled with many fun adventures, we know that we did.
One of our favorite summer road trips was through Nevada, Utah, Idaho and Oregon. Starting with a couple of days of relaxation at the Peppermill Reno Resort and Casino (luxury resort and spa facilities help take you away from the casino), we then drove to Utah. There we stayed in Park City (home to the 2002 Winter Olympics) while attending the Outdoor Retailer Show (the largest summer outdoor show of its kind), in Salt Lake City. At OR we saw the release of the latest and newest in outdoor gear, gadgets, clothing and technology (Take a look below at some of our favorite products from the show – there are bound to be some really fun and exciting items to add to your wish list!).
P.S. WAVEJourney newsletter subscribers will automatically be entered to win some fun swag from OR.
The road trip continued on to Boise, Idaho, where we found a gem of a hotel (The Boise Hotel delivered excellent service, was clean and comfortable, and at a very affordable price), and tried the newest brew pub from one of our favorite Bend breweries – 10 Barrel Brewing Company.
Finally, we returned to Bend, Oregon just in time for Bend BrewFest, where we once again volunteered to pour during this fun beer festival. Craft beer lovers need to make a trip to Bend for this event!
Want to read all about a fun evening of mozzarella, pizza and limoncello at a family farm in Sorrento, Italy? This was definitely one of our most memorable evenings during our springtime adventures in Europe.
WJ’s next big overseas adventure will take us to Vietnam and Cambodia for the very first time. Then we will spend a couple of weeks exploring Thailand (it’s been 20+ years since either of us were there) before we return to North America. Do you have any tips, recommendations, suggestions for these countries? We want your feedback to help us plan. Or, let us know where you want us to visit while we’re over in Southeast Asia and we’ll try and add your destination to our itinerary.
Happy Travels!

SHOP: GREAT READ – THE BOOB BLOG A MEMOIR
By Linda M. Ball
WJ friend and contributor Linda M. Ball shares her story of dealing with breast cancer.
“I always thought I’d just curl up and die if I was ever diagnosed with cancer or any other life-threatening disease. But I surprised myself. I had more strength than I knew I had. I decided I wanted to live. Cancer is a bitch. My ability to find humor even in the lowest points of my life, and my determination to deal with the disease with as much grace as possible…”
TRAVEL TALE – FRANCE: AVIGNON THEATER FESTIVAL
By Lucy Komisar
In 1947, a production of William Shakespeare’s “Richard II” was put on at the Court of Honor in the Palace of the Popes in Avignon. It was the beginning of the “Festival d’Avignon,” which has grown over the years to include hundreds of venues in existing theaters and spaces in other historical sites as well as schools, cafés, shops and anyplace people can sit or fit.

TRAVEL TALE: THE EGYPT I KNEW: WHEN WESTERN WOMEN WERE WELCOMED!
By Patti Morrow
It was one of those milestone birthdays, over ten years ago. One of those times when you want to do something unique that will provide a lifetime of memories. Some call such places a “bucket list.” For a long time, Egypt had been at the top of mine. And so I took off from that runway in Boston, as excited as a school girl on her first date. Even my extensive research and wildest dreams would not adequately prepare for the sights I was about to see.
WJ TESTED: KNUCKLE LIGHTS
