Sketchpad Tour of Myanmar in February 2014
Cape Lux Travels is one of the first Travel Operators to offer a fully escorted ‘Myanmar with Your Sketchpad Tour’ 8-18 February, 2014 under the guidance of acclaimed artist Cees Sliedrecht.
Hidden between the Indian subcontinent and Indochina, Myanmar has long been the unknown gem of the region. The former British Colony has suddenly come out of its shell through a turnaround of the military regime in their move towards Democracy and the tireless efforts of the “Queen” of Burma, the Nobel Peace Laureate Aung San Su Kyi.
Burma offers something completely new to the most discerning and experienced traveler. So far, not many people have had the opportunity to travel to this wonderful, resource rich country and engage themselves in the unspoiled adventures it has to offer. Imagine experiencing a plethora of pungent scents of spice and incense, tasting sweetly strange fruit and garlicky rice, getting lost in a Utopia of colours when the sun sets behind the huge Pagoda’s, Temples, Monasteries and the fishing villages at the banks of the impressive Irrawaddy River, the food bowl of Burma.
Meet the ever smiling and welcoming locals in the colourful markets and in the quaint streets and during our special visits to art galleries and have a chat with Yangon artists. There are no traffic jams, except for the occasional sleepy water buffalo lugging his load up the road, or in some places, sandalled, orange-clad Buddhist monks on their way to collect their early morning alms.
Taking place from 8-18 February, 2014, our specially tailored 10 ‘Art’ day itinerary includes Deluxe Hotel Accommodation, daily breakfast, welcome dinner, farewell luncheon. Also included are your internal flights in Myanmar, air-conditioned transport, entry fees for places of interest, fully guided tours covering Yangon, formerly Rangoon, Mandalay, Bagan and Inle Lake and more.
Also included is your art tutoring, critiques and individual feedback by our experienced artist, Cees Sliedrecht who welcomes both established and aspiring artists. Everyone will receive art coaching assistance from the level they are at. Cees, is well known for his excellent drawing and painting skills covering both traditional and contemporary styles. So you can be assured that you will take home a rich collection of drawings and paintings, unique reminders of this unforgettable and memorable trip. Your travel diaries will be filled with illustrations and notes and you may even feel like making a book of your experiences and leave it on your coffee table for others to admire.
Our journey to Myanmar is also for non-artists – we’ll hunt for vintage memorabilia in Yangon’s most eclectic antique shop, or visit local markets, we’ll discover food and wine, and Temples and Pagodas. We’ll might even try our hand at a cookery lesson or two. Our itinerary allows plenty of time to wander through local markets, admire the wealth of colonial architecture and be awe struck by the exquisite pagodas and temples which dot the countryside
Some highlights will be the Shwedagon Paya, Bagan’s splendid temples, experience glorious sunsets, and the long-tail boats of Inle Lake. And the very friendly smiles of the Burmese people.
“This is Burma and it is unlike any land you know about” Quoting Rudyard Kipling in his comments about Burma.
From the very moment you first step on Myanmar soil, you are in for a totally unique and different experience. Come with us on this magic carpet ride to discover this land made of dreams.
Cees and Cape Lux Travels’ founder, Jean Wethmar, will accompany the journey at all times. You’ll be in safe hands. Rates for this exclusive tour begin at $3850 USD.
