Uniworld Vietnam & Cambodia Cruise: Onward to Siem Reap

DAY 10: UNIWORLD RIVER ORCHID DISEMBARKATION IN KAMPONG CHAM AND COACH DRIVE TO SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA

This morning we again woke in time for our last sunrise on Uniworld River Orchid, and our last sunrise on the Mekong River during this trip. The crew already had the early riser’s coffee, juice and tea ready on the sun deck when we went up at 6 AM and it was wonderful to spend at least a few minutes enjoying the peace and tranquility of the morning before other passengers rose.

As we had already packed our bags the night before, we put them outside our stateroom door at 7:15 AM (just as we were going to breakfast in the ship’s dining room). Our last bowls of steaming noodle soup were prepared for us while we devoured tropical fruit and sipped on our coffee. We were definitely sad to say farewell to this fantastic crew – they had been the finest of any ship’s crew we had experienced thus far.

By 8 AM it was time to board our coach with Cambodian guide Kinal, for the 4+ hour drive to Siem Reap. Along the route, our coach made a comfort stop where we could use restrooms and have drinks and snacks.

When we arrived in Siem Reap, the coach took us to the Khmer Restaurant, Champey, in a UNESCO French historical building near the old market. Here we enjoyed a delicious lunch (the Amok fish baked in a banana leaf was divine) in a private room. Thankfully, the room was nicely air-conditioned as Siem Reap was incredibly hot and humid.

Following lunch the coach took us to the Victoria Angkor Resort & Spa where we checked-in for three nights. We then had a short break to relax before an included 2-hour city tour by tuk-tuk.

The tour took us to a school where children learned various forms of local dancing and singing. Then it was across town to the Artisans Angkor where we had a brief tour of the workshops and saw some of the handicrafts being made there.

The remainder of the evening was then free for us to spend on our own – we decided to return to the hotel and enjoy a cocktail in the lounge before cooling down with a swim in the courtyard pool.
