Uniworld Timeless Wonders of Vietnam & Cambodia Cruise: Sa Dec
DAY 4: SA DEC, VIETNAM
Following a fascinating morning excursion to Cai Be we were ready for lunch aboard Uniworld River Orchid. A delightful hot and cold lunch buffet was available in the Dining Room from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM – we were definitely not going hungry on this trip!

After lunch we had a little time to relax on the sun deck before the 2 PM included excursion to Sa Dec departed by sampan. The sampan took us along canals that were far too small for River Orchid to cruise, but it was an excellent opportunity to observe local life along the Mekong River.

First stop along the canals was at a brick factory where we saw how ceramic floor tiles and bricks are made using mud from the Mekong.

Another sampan ride along the canals and we arrived at Sa Dec where we strolled through the bustling local market located directly along the canal. This market was very different from what we had seen elsewhere – frogs skinned alive, huge baskets of river snails still crawling, fish jumping out of shallow bowls, fruit and vegetables galore. Quite fascinating!

We finished our excursion with a guided tour of Huynh Thuy Le House – made famous by French novelist Marguerite Duras who wrote about her affair with the son of a wealthy Chinese landowner.

By just after 5 PM we were back aboard River Orchid and as she started to cruise towards our next destination we enjoyed a cocktail on the sun deck and watched the sunset.
Another wonderful dinner in the Dining Room was followed by the showing of the movie “Good Morning Vietnam” in the movie theater.
