The Nam Hai 5-Star luxury resort and spa is located in Hoi An, Vietnam

MORNING MEDITATION CLASS

Waking to the distant sound of waves crashing on the beach as the sun began to rise made it a piece of cake for us to join the 7 AM meditation class. Hailing from Nepal, Giri, the fitness, yoga and meditation instructor held a one-hour mediation class six days a week (not on Sunday). Although we were tempted to stay for the yoga class that started afterwards we were feeling relaxed, energized and ready to embrace the day so decided to hit the beach for a 45-minute stroll before going to breakfast.

BREAKFAST BUFFET AT THE RESTAURANT
The included breakfast at The Nam Hai is a lavish affair and definitely one we lingered over – for a good 90 minutes. The temperature outside was perfect and although the sky was grey and ominous we decided to try our luck dining al fresco – that is until the clouds burst and it started to pour with rain.

The extensive breakfast buffet offered a sumptuous selection of hot and cold foods; with ample variety of both Vietnamese and Western dishes. Viv ordered the Cau Lau – a local Hoi An dish which was wonderful – and Jill was suitably impressed with her order of Eggs Benedict Florentine. We both enjoyed starting off with a glass of Champange and Tamarind juice, followed by cafe latte and cappuccino – again they were both excellent.

As the heavens had opened and it was pouring rain we decided to visit the library and use the computers and peruse the selection of books until returning to the comfort of our villa.

THE NAM HAI GROUNDS AND FACILITIES
At 1 PM we had a guided tour of the grounds and impressive facilities at The Nam Hai – fitness center (gym/sauna/steam room), table tennis, bikes available for guest use, villas with their own private pool, kids area, tennis courts, badminton court, large herb garden. With 600 staff working at the resort it is easy to tell why everything is immaculate and well cared for.

THE SPA
Before ending the tour we visited the award-winning Spa – overlooking a beautiful man-made lagoon with lush vegetation and palm trees.

Once our tour was over we were ready to go for a swim. As the weather was still overcast and the air temperature a tad cool we made our way to the Family Pool – the only heated pool of the three (adult, lap, family).

Next we walked to the Fitness Center to use the sauna and steam room. As they needed to heat up the sauna and steam room (we had to wait 20 minutes so it’s wise to call ahead) we went and played table tennis in the adjoining building while we waited for them to be ready.

After our sauna and steam room experience we strolled back to our villa and relaxed out on the patio until it was time to get ready for dinner.

THE BEACH RESTAURANT
Tonight we dined at The Beach Restaurant (Vietnamese cuisine) and enjoyed sharing a fantastic meal of green papaya salad, chicken with lemongrass, eggplant and braised tofu.
