WAVEJourney’s Review of 4-Star Boutique Hotel Cambon in Paris, France
When WJ decided to take a two-week motor coach tour around France during summer (July 2012) we were very excited at the prospect of returning to one of our favorite European countries, and absolutely ecstatic once our hotel reservation at Hotel Cambon was confirmed.
It was November 2009 when we first had the pleasure of staying at and reviewing the 4-star boutique Hotel Cambon in the heart of Paris.
Located on Rue Cambon (one of Paris’ premier addresses and moments from the first Chanel store) the hotel is ideally situated for getting around on foot – across from the Tuileries Garden and within easy walking distance of the Louvre and Place de la Concorde.
ARRIVAL
After arriving at Charles de Gaulle Airport (Roissy) by plane from Helsinki, Finland, we jumped on the train (RER B to Châtelet – Les Halles), then changed to the Metro (Paris Metro Line 1), which took us into the city center (Metro: Concorde), before walking for about 3 minutes (across Rue de Rivoli) to arrive at Hotel Cambon.
We were immediately greeted by the porter, whom took our luggage and welcomed us to the hotel. The receptionist checked us in and asked us to take a seat for a few minutes while our room was being prepared – we arrived just before 3 p.m. on a Friday afternoon.
Lovely and charming General Manager, Isabelle Frouin, came to greet us and asked if we would like a refreshment while we waited for our room key – it was certainly wonderful to see Isabelle once again – and within moments the porter promptly brought us the glasses of chilled water we had requested.
Within 10 minutes of arriving we had our key in hand, and were on our way in the small elevator to our seventh floor room. The porter brought our luggage to the room within a few minutes of us entering and asked if he could get anything else for us.
GUEST ROOM
There are 40 rooms, including 7 suites, and each is uniquely decorated with fabulous art work. The spacious and comfortable guest room that we stayed in had a queen-size bed, love seat, desk, flat screen TV, large marble bathroom with a tub, central heating, air-conditioning, mini-bar, a small terrace with table and chairs (which provided a view of the Tuileries Garden and rooftops of neighboring buildings).
CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST
There’s nothing better for us than to be able to get a good cup of coffee in the morning, and the cafe au lait we had with breakfast at Hotel Cambon was wonderful.
As we are not big breakfast eaters we found the continental breakfast offered plenty of choice, and was certainly enough for us to start our day.
Breakfast items available included coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juice, croissants, pastries, yogurt, sliced cheese, sliced meat, pate, and boiled eggs (time the cooking yourself at the buffet).
Note: Other breakfast menu items are available from the kitchen for an additional charge.
PROS
– Fantastic location – within walking distance of shopping, museums, art galleries, major attractions
– Intimate, safe and secure hotel
– Each room has unique art work and decor
– Attentive, friendly and helpful staff
– Parisian atmosphere and ambiance
– If you are a lover of art, this hotel is the place to stay – make sure to walk the hallways of each floor to see the multitude of unique pieces
– Mini-bar (extra fees apply)
– In-room safe
– Robes and slippers provided
– Computer and printer in lobby is available for guest use
– The lobby bar area is a great place to relax after a busy day of exploring
CONS
– WIFI charge for each device
– Breakfast is extra unless you book a package that includes it
– The hotel does not have a restaurant – we don’t really find this a problem as there are so many options within walking distance and the staff makes wonderful recommendations
– Some rooms are on the smallish side (typical for Paris), so just be aware when making a reservation that you book a room that is large enough to suit your needs
BOTTOM LINE
For business or pleasure, if you are looking to stay at a unique boutique hotel in one of Paris’ premier neighborhoods, Hotel Cambon absolutely fits the bill. It is located close to a variety of antique shops, near many of the cities most famous fashion boutiques, and within a short walk of top restaurants, museums and art galleries.
