Eagle Creek Pack-It Specter™ On Board Review

By WAVEJourney

WJ is always looking for lighter gear to take on our travels. One of the things we dislike most is having to check luggage when we fly, and then handling a large and probably heavy bag on the ground. So, we reduce the size and weight of all our gear and clothing as much as possible. This led to us testing the Eagle Creek Pack-It Specter™ On Board toiletry kit on a recent 6-week trip. Did we like it? Yes, and no.

EAGLE CREEK DESCRIPTION:

An ultra lightweight toiletry kit with multiple organizer pockets and a swivel hook for easy hanging and access. Made in durable, translucent, silnylon ripstop.

FEATURES:

  • Seven organizer slip pockets and two zippered pockets for maximum organization
  • Ultra-light water repellent silnylon ripstop
  • Stow-away swivel non-slip hook for versatile hanging options
  • Convenient carry handle
  • Perforated EVA foam for ultra light padding
  • Washable
  • Lifetime Warranty

SPECS:

  • Capacity: 350 cu in | 5.5 L
  • Weight: 5.5 oz | 155 g
  • Fabric: 30D Silnylon Ripstop
  • Dimensions: 10 x 7.5 x 4.5 in | 25.4 x 19 x 11 cm

PROS:

  • Very lightweight so it helps with keeping the weight down on packing.
  • Considering the compact size of this bag, there is a lot of space.
  • The material is easy to wash (we just wiped it down with a damp cloth) and dries quickly.
  • Padding helps protect contents from being broken or squashed.
  • The two zippered pockets for storing small items was very handy.
  • Both of us used one kit for a 6-week trip and packed all of our toiletries without a problem.

CONS:

  • Only two side pockets have bottoms to prevent items from falling out.
  • The slip pockets along the back are not as handy as we thought they would be – items kept slipping through the bottom and didn’t stay where we put them.
  • The large hook fits on a door handle or closet rod and hooks easily enough, but it isn’t accessible when you close the kit.
  • It is important to balance items in the kit when hanging it up – otherwise the front can pull down if heavier items are in the main compartment area.

BOTTOM LINE:

For a lightweight, compact, toiletry kit that would carry all our bathroom amenities the Eagle Creek Pack-It Specter™ On Board worked well for us. This is now an essential item we will be packing on many trips in the future.
