WJ Tested: Insight Vacations Italian Escapade Tour: Day 12 – Returning to Rome we check-in to the Sheraton Roma before our included highlight dinner at Ristorante Papa Rex.
Following our morning visit to Pompeii, brief stop at the Cassino War Cemetery and a quick lunch break at an AutoGrille along the A1, we arrived at the Sheraton Roma at 3:30 pm – for the final night and last hotel of our Insight Vacations Italian Escapade Tour.
Sheraton Roma
The 4-star Sheraton Roma is in the business center of Rome and closer to the airport than the city center. This hotel had recently undergone cosmetic renovations (new carpet) and was just fine for spending one night to sleep before leaving the tour – typical Sheraton beds and pillows proved very comfy.

We were thrilled that our final meal with the group was an included highlight dinner near St. Peter’s Square. Tour Director Mark informed us to meet in the hotel lobby at 5:45 pm for the 30-minute drive to the Vatican. This also proved the perfect opportunity to give Mark and driver Alberto their well-deserved gratuities – they both had far exceeded all of our expectations!

A lively dinner ensued over the couple of hours that we were at Ristorante Papa Rex. The 4-course meal featuring entrees of sea bass or veal (with copious amounts of delicious food and plenty of wine) satiated our appetites.

During the evening there was much singing, dancing and frivolity from both the entertainers, restaurant staff and all members of our group. A good time was definitely had by all and everyone ended the evening and the tour on a very high note!

Back at the hotel we said fond farewell to our new group of friends, some continuing on to other adventures and others travelling home. For us, this had been one vacation that would join the ranks of “most memorable travel experiences” and we were only sad that it had to end.
