Wish You Were Here – Postcard From Cu Chi Tunnels

Greetings from Vietnam! Today was our first full day of activity with Uniworld River Cruises on their Timeless Wonders of Vietnam and Cambodia cruise tour.

After a lovely breakfast at Park Hyatt Saigon our Uniworld group left Ho Chi Minh City in a very nice and new coach for the 90-minute drive into the countryside to visit the Cu Chi Tunnels. This massive expanse of tunnels spanning over 150 miles are legendary. This is where the Viet Cong started the tunnel system in 1948 and  expanded them during the Vietnam War (or if you are Vietnamese, the American War).

The entire tunnel system is quite fascinating and if you venture down into them (like Jill did for about 15 meters) you best not be claustrophobic. We can not imagine spending 33 days underground like some of the VC did during the war.

No matter what… this is really worthwhile for a visit. And, it brings home the fact that NOBODY ever wins in a war!

Happy Travels!
