September 2017 Travel Tips and Tales Newsletter
Greetings!
Fall is in the air and the changing of the season is evident in our neck of the woods. How about you? Share a photo or two with us on our Facebook page or drop an email and tell us about your fall adventures.
WJ TRAVEL TIP:
During our time in Europe we took three long-distance bus journeys with a company called FlixBus, which is based in Germany. We were impressed by the service, cleanliness, friendly driver, and price of bus tickets with this company, and will definitely use them again.
FlixBus safely transferred us from Budapest, Hungary to Zagreb, Croatia on a 5-hour journey for only 17 euro each. We had considered taking the train, but the schedule was much longer and at inconvenient times, plus the price was almost triple the bus ticket. Another 6-hour journey was from Zagreb to Split in Croatia for only 16 euro each. Once again, the trip was on time and a much better alternative to the train. Lastly was a 5.5-hour bus ride from Barcelona, Spain to Toulouse, France for only 22 euro each.
Some of the buses also had free WiFi service which was a nice bonus. So, if you’re looking for a long-distance bus ride between cities in Europe, take a look at options with FlixBus. It’s quick and easy to book on both their website or through their app.
WJ CRUISE TIP – OCTOBER IS CRUISE MONTH!
The month of October is celebrating cruise month which means the cruise lines will be offering tremendous sales and deals. This is a terrific time to book a last-minute cruise for remainder of 2017, or plan ahead and secure the cruise you’ve always wanted for 2018. Where will you be cruising to next? Share your cruise plans with us, too. And, if you’re on Twitter, come join #TBINChat on Tuesday October 17 at 3PM ET for a cruise travel chat – plus a prize giveaway sponsored by AmaWaterways.
WJ TRAVEL TRIVIA:
Do you know that cruising is the fastest growing segment of the travel industry? This doesn’t surprise us at all (and it is one of our most favorite modes of travel). We love to only unpack once and see the world from the comfort of our floating hotel. WJ has taken 6 amazing cruises so far in 2017 – various sizes, companies and styles.
Check out the cruise companies we travelled with:
AmaWaterways river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest
CroisiEurope river cruise in Bordeaux, France
Royal Caribbean International Transatlantic and Caribbean cruises
Cunard Transatlantic Crossing
Katarina Line deluxe motor yacht Adriatic Sea Croatia cruise
All of these brands, ships and cruise experiences were very different, but wonderful. We hope to cruise with all of them again soon. How about you? Where do you want to cruise next?

WJ TIPS: GEAR
WAVEJourney has been sent a couple of bike helmets from Thousand. These are stylish helmets that we’re going to test out and see if they’re as comfy to wear as they are cool to look at. Out of the box, we’re impressed by the construction and weight of the helmets. Maybe these will encourage us to wear bike helmets every time we’re out for a ride. Do you always wear a bike helmet?
WJ TESTED: GADGETS FOR YOUR TRAVELS
WJ tested the RoamingMan 4G Mobile WiFi Hotspot in Europe during our 109-day adventures. We found this hotspot to be invaluable for staying connected throughout the 10 countries we visited. It was especially helpful to have this device on hand when we were driving the countryside in both Spain and France and wanted to connect to online maps and GPS. The data is unlimited each day, but some countries do reduce the 4G speed significantly once the hotspot reaches 500 MB of data use. We would have been lost without this!
Check RoamingMan out for your next trip.
WJ TRAVEL TIP – LUXURY VILLAS IN CATALONIA, SPAIN
If you are considering spending time in the Costa Brava, Spain we’d advise renting a villa with family and/or friends and spending a week or two at the luxury Mas Talaia Villa. If you want to see other luxury villas in Catalonia, take a look at those listed with Charming Villas – we recommend their services, too.
