Uniworld Timeless Wonders of Vietnam & Cambodia Cruise: Ho Chi Minh City
Uniworld Timeless Wonders of Vietnam & Cambodia Cruise: Ho Chi Minh City
DAY 1 – HO CHI MINH CITY (SAIGON), VIETNAM
Today we took a train (7 hour journey) from Nha Trang, located on the coast of Vietnam, back to Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) to start our Uniworld Timeless Wonders of Vietnam & Cambodia Cruise. Passengers flying into HCMC were able to take advantage of Uniworld’s included airport transfers (very nice way to start a trip), but we had arrived in Vietnam a few weeks earlier and opted to take the slow route back in order to join the cruisetour.
Due to a snafu with the train (accident closed the tracks into the main train station about 5 km from Saigon) we didn’t arrive at the Park Hyatt Saigon Hotel (luxury city hotel for our first two nights) until after 4 pm. But, the wonderfully friendly staff at the hotel were extremely efficient and had us checked-in within minutes – the receptionist even escorted us to our guestroom and showed us how everything worked (a wonderful touch).
Our spacious and comfortable room (306) on the 3rd floor overlooked the portico at the front of the hotel and we were able to see the rear of the Municipal Theater. We were also on the same level as the beautiful outdoor pool (fantastic for a swim and to escape the hustle and bustle of HCMC) and took advantage of it as soon as we were settled in.
While we were at the pool Uniworld Cruise Director Ha Do left a package at our room that contained the schedule for the next couple of days and a welcome letter. Ha also called the room a little while later to make sure we received the information and to inquire if there was anything we needed – fantastic service!
The evening was free for us to enjoy (no scheduled activities), which was perfect as we were tired from our full-day journey and just wanted to luxuriate in our room at the Park Hyatt Saigon.
