Day 7 – June 9: Sea Day

After such excitement the previous day in Santorini, we were glad to have a sea day to relax and really enjoy the ship’s amenities. We each had a day pass to the Thermal Suite at the Greenhouse Spa and after a light breakfast started our day of relaxation with the aromatherapy water treatment showers, the hydrotherapy pool, wet and dry saunas and hot tile lounge beds. After spending a couple of hours going from one treatment to the other we made our way poolside and enjoyed lazing about and having lunch before taking another session in the Thermal Suite.

For those wanting to remain active and busy, there were a plethora of seminars, cooking demonstrations (including an appearance by guest chef Michelle Bernstein), digital classes, fitness & wellness classes, games, beer and wine tasting, plus mixology classes going on around the ship throughout the day.

As we were so relaxed and had joined friends for Happy Hour in the Ocean Bar and then again before dinner for cocktails in the Silk Den, we decided to skip the formal night in the Manhattan Dining Room and opted to eat at the Lido buffet. The mistake we made was in assuming it would be open until 9:00 pm like it had on a previous evening we had dined there. This particular night they were closing down just as we arrived at 8:30 pm. So, Jill decided to skip dinner and I went back to the cabin and called in-room dining. The steak sandwich and potato chips that arrived 30 minutes later were plenty enough to do the trick until the upcoming Dessert Extravaganza on the Lido Deck from 10:30 pm – 12:00 mn.

With the Nieuw Amsterdam gently cruising towards Catania, Sicily we finally decided to get much needed beauty sleep around 1 am.
