A relaxing start to the morning was graced with breakfast poolside as the Nieuw Amsterdam cruised into port in Corfu, Greece at 10 am. By 10:30 am we were off the ship and taking the free port shuttle to the customs building near the entrance. From here we decided to walk along the harbor front towards old Corfu town. We were glad we did as it only took about 20 minutes and we were able to witness lots of local activity going on.
Old Corfu had plenty of souvenir shops, cafes, restaurants and historical sightseeing to keep us occupied for the day and the local shopkeepers were uber friendly and welcoming – thanking us often for visiting their town.

After wandering through the shops of the Venetian and Jewish Quarters, our exploring took us to Spianada Square where we watched local residents strolling through the park. Then we visited the Old Venetian Fortress, Palace of St. Michael and St. George and the arched buildings of the Liston. Before making our way back to the ship in mid-afternoon, we found a pastry shop and shared a slice of the most amazing baklava we have ever had.
Again, we enjoyed a quiet afternoon by the adult pool and feasted on lunch items at the Lido buffet and pizza from Slice. We also made it to Happy Hour in the Ocean Bar and joined a group of new friends for the 4-5pm drink specials – a great deal on cocktails. As Jill was entered in a poker tournament in the casino, we again decided to have a relaxed dinner at the Lido buffet and had another terrific meal.
We reconnected later in the evening after Jill won the poker tournament and then took in the Lido Pool Party with lots of fun and dancing poolside, followed by the 11 pm Filipino Crew Show in The Showroom at Sea – which turned out to be worth staying up for as the crew did an outstanding performance.
