Day 12 – June 14: Barcelona, Spain
This was in essence a full day at sea, with arrival in Barcelona not until 6 pm. As we had both visited Barcelona previously and would be staying an extra night after disembarkation, we were not inclined to leave the ship in the evening once she docked. So, with another lazy day ahead of us we slept in and then made our way to the Thermal Suite at the Greenhouse Spa for another day of hydrotherapy. We also found space by the pool (a very busy area all day) and in between sessions in the Thermal Suite would bake in the sun and enjoy the sea air.
As we had carry-on luggage we didn’t bother with the disembarkation briefing ( although we later found out we missed out on complimentary mimosas) and just needed to vacate our cabin by 9:30 am the following day. At 4 pm we made our way for the final Happy Hour at the Ocean Bar and afterward watched the approach to Barcelona along the Costa Brava.

Nieuw Amsterdam docked earlier than originally anticipated and arrived in Barcelona by 5 pm. All of a sudden there was a mass exodus of passengers making their way into the city for the evening. We were again having dinner at 7 pm with Linda Garrison (About.com cruise travel writer) and her mom, Marvel, this time in the Manhattan Dining Room. It was another excellent meal and a real treat to spend the final dinner dining with two such interesting women.
The final entertainment production on the voyage in was It Takes 2 by the Nieuw Amsterdam entertainers. A nice way to complete the evening. Afterward we ventured into the Piano Bar for a so long sing-a-long with Bill Forrest… another evening of great fun.
