WAVEJourney first sailed on the Schooner Zodiac on the inaugural Nauti-gals sailing back in 2010, and we were thrilled to be included in the 2016 cruise to once again experience this exceptional gal-pal bonding adventure.

Keep it light and just kick back or don your gloves and pitch in. From our experiences, we reveled at joining in at all sailing stations, learned how to read charts, (wo)manned the helm, prepared to make sail and stood at ready to come about.

On this last cruise we had about 25 souls on board which included guests, volunteer crew and captain, and a cook, who definitely knew her way around a tight galley and presented us with wholesome meals.

Our fellow sailors hailed from the West Coast to the Midwest. It’s always great to meet new people and swap adventure tales. As usual in our travels when we share a special journey, we have stayed in touch with some of these new friends.

And that’s the beauty of Schooner Zodiac’s Nauti-gals Women’s Sailing Adventure: like-minded strangers come together with a shared goal and leave as friends. Over glasses and wine or cider, friendships are formed and new adventures are planned.

Regardless of camaraderie shared, this journey can also prove to be a few days to slow down, disconnect to reconnect with what’s important.

Sailing on the Schooner Zodiac presents moments to quiet one’s soul, breathe in the fresh air, feel the wind rush by and clear one’s mind, and receive the gift.

“The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient. To dig for treasures shows not only impatience and greed, but lack of faith. Patience, patience, patience, is what the sea teaches. Patience and faith. One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach—waiting for a gift from the sea.”  — Anne Morrow Lindbergh, Gift from the Sea

P.S. There are many interesting multi-day themed cruises offered on Schooner Zodiac. These make for fun and exciting trip for solos, a gaggle of gal-pals, couples and multi-generational sailing getaways. No experience required and only participate to your comfort and endurance levels. WJ can’t wait to go back for another Schooner Zodiac – maybe one of their beer-themed cruises will be next on our list.
