DAILY CRUISE LOG
DAY 1: Embarkation at Cape Liberty Cruise Terminal in Bayonne, New Jersey
Friday September 7, 2018 – cloudy skies and 73F
Sail away: 3 PM
Dinner dress suggestion: Casual
After taking a 20-minute ride with Lyft from our hotel (DoubleTree by Hilton Newark Airport) near Newark airport, we were on the ship within 30 minutes of arriving at the cruise terminal.
The security process was smooth and thorough (make sure you don’t have any liquid in your water bottles or you’ll need to empty them before proceeding). The line for check-in wasn’t too long when we arrived at 11:40 AM, and only took 5 minutes before we were heading towards the ship. The friendly woman that checked us in informed us we’d find our SeaPass cards at our stateroom.
While waiting for the stateroom to be ready we just found a lounge to chill out in, although many passengers went for lunch at the Windjammer Café – buffet. We also took this time to make dining reservations for Chop’s Grille and Giovanni’s Italian Restaurant for the next two evenings – taking advantage of the BOGO (Buy One, Get One).
Promptly at 1 PM the corridor hall for our deck opened and we found our SeaPass cards at the stateroom (8219 – forward inside cabin). After unpacking (we carried on all our luggage, so didn’t need to wait for delivery before unpacking = priceless) and getting settled, we went to the Windjammer to grab a bite to eat.
There was enough time to make a quick tour of the ship and figure out where everything was before the mandatory muster station drill that all passengers and crew participate in before the ship can depart.
Unfortunately, the afternoon was cloudy and visibility was limited, so views of the Manhattan skyline in the distance weren’t as clear as they would be on a clear day.
DINNER AT CHOPS GRILLE
Dinner at Chops Grille was excellent and definitely worth the additional charge. $41 (including 18% gratuity) per person for a 4-course steakhouse meal that would easily cost three times that amount is a good deal.
Chops Grille – Tuna Tartare AppetizerOur appetizer choices were the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake, and Tuna Tartare with avocado, ginger and wasabi caviar.
Caesar Salad and Crispy Goat Cheese Salad were our next course.
For main courses we both had the 6oz Petite Angus Filet Mignon, along with sides of Truffled French Fries, Sauteed Mushrooms and Creamed Spinach these were perfect accompaniments.
To complete the meal we had the Warm Chocolate Cake with vanilla ice cream and berry compote, and Key Lime Meringue Pie.
