Yotel Amsterdam Schiphol Airport Review
Yotel Amsterdam Schiphol Airport Review
WJ Tested on April 29, 2013
When you need a comfortable, convenient, cozy and clean place to spend either just a few hours or an entire night at Amsterdam Schiphol airport, Yotel comes to the rescue!
If you want a full-service, full-amenities, large and luxurious hotel, Yotel is not for you! But if you like the idea of a compact, modern and functional hotel that you can rent from just 4 hours and up to 24 hours, Yotel is definitely ideal – there is a whole lot packed into a small space.
At Amsterdam Schiphol Airport:
- Yotel was not too difficult to find when we arrived at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport by train.
- As this Yotel is behind security we needed to go through security and passport control to gain access. So follow the signs towards passport control. No problems going through – just needed a valid passport, Yotel confirmation print out and departing flight (for the next morning) printout. (full details are available on Yotel’s site)
- Once through security we were in Lounge 2 area and could see see signs directing to Yotel. Go up lift or escalator and continue to follow signs.
Checking in to Yotel:
- Checked in at 5:20pm (reservation was for 6 pm but the cabin was available and ready)
- Kiosk check-in was out of order (not a big deal as we prefer people to machines).
- Checked in by the delightful Priscilla. She then showed us to the cabin we were booked in – a premium cabin (#4) for 2 people.
- Priscilla showed us how to operate the bed (it goes down and back up with press of a button), explained the climate control system and the lighting options.
- We were given 1 key card for the door to the cabin (we could get another key card from reception if we needed it).
Premium Cabin Amenities:
- Double bed – easy to adjust with the press of a button. Very firm, but comfortable and good quality linens and pillows.
- TV
- Phone
- Desk (folding)
- Chair (folding)
- Ample electrical outlets
- Monsoon shower
- Good water pressure in shower and we loved the shower gel – body/hair combo
- Nice plush towels
- Free WiFi – worked well for us to get work done
- Mood lighting
- Full-length mirror
- Window out to corridor (when the blind is open you can see into the corridor and be seen)
Food & Beverages:
- There is a limited but very adequate food and beverage menu for room service or to go.
- Pricing was certainly reasonable and the service was prompt and friendly.
- In the evening we ordered a very tasty ham and cheese panini (€4.50), and a bottle of Heineken (€3.20).
- We pre-ordered the Continental Breakfast (€6.95 apple, orange juice (or apple juice), yogurt, health bar, pastries) to take with us when we checked out at 5 am – good value and very convenient.
- Free tea, coffee, cafe latte and cappuccino – served in a large take-out cup with a lid (the cup was big enough so not to slosh about while walking to our flight).
Checking Out:
- The extremely efficient and helpful Diane checked us out after making our lattes and giving us the bags with our pre-ordered Continental Breakfast. Then she gave us directions to find our morning flight and even walked part way with us when we looked confused.
Other Available Amenities:
- Free use of alarm clock (€15 charge if you don’t return it at check out)
Additional Observations:
- Can’t have the desk open while the bed is down in the sleeping position – so nowhere to leave laptop charging overnight.
- Need more hooks to hang clothes – only 2 hangers
- Storage under the bed will easily fit 2+ large pieces of luggage
- Privacy between the bathroom and bedroom – the division between the bathroom and the bedroom is clear glass
- Non-smoking facility
- 24-hour Front Desk
Other Yotel Cabin Options:
- Family Room – 2 bunk beds and 1 double that sleeps 4
- Standard Cabin – small and compact and only for one guest. Single bunk style bed, glass-enclosed shower, sink, toilet area. The cabin door window has a blind that shuts out the corridor view.
Bottom Line:
WAVEJourney thoroughly enjoyed our 11-hour stay at Yotel Schiphol Airport and would certainly book this service again whenever we are in a location where these cabins are available.
If You Go:
- Yotel – Locations also at Heathrow, Gatwick and in New York City
