WAVEJourney Review: 4-Star Boutique Hotel in Lisbon, Portugal
Located in Lisbon’s historic city center and a block from Avenida da Liberdade, Hotel Lisboa Plaza exudes old world charm in a warm and welcome atmosphere.
This is a family-owned and operated boutique property that is part of the Heritage Lisbon Hotels collection. These hotels all occupy small historic buildings throughout the city and are managed by a Portuguese family.
ARRIVAL
Jumping off the metro and walking 4-minutes was all it took to arrive at the front door of the 6-story Hotel Lisboa Plaza.
As soon as we entered the elegant lobby we knew we had chosen the perfect place to be based for enjoying sightseeing in Lisbon’s historic center.
The reception staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful as we checked-in, explained the various amenities the hotel offers guests, and gave us each a voucher for a glass of Port to enjoy in the Paddock Bar, before directing us to our guest room.
GUEST ROOM
Our spacious junior suite with twin beds, oozed old-world charm and style of a Portuguese home.
The marble bathroom was spotlessly clean and bathrobes were a welcome amenity.
Although we only spent one night at the hotel, we did find time to enjoy the in-room DVD player after selecting a movie from the large library of DVDs available at the front-desk.
A bottle of Port and bowl of raisins were in the room when we arrived and we certainly enjoyed the welcoming gesture.
BREAKFAST
Served in the main dining room, the buffet breakfast was a lavish affair of hot-and-cold items and one we were glad to partake in. For a buffet breakfast it is reasonably priced and children eat free.
INTERNET
A small business center off the main lobby featured two computers and a printer for guest use and which provided free access to the web.
STAFF
Everywhere we roamed within the hotel staff were happy, friendly and extremely helpful.
This was one of those hotels where you immediately feel like an old friend from the very first moment. One example was when we ventured into the Paddock Bar late in the evening and decided we needed a snack and cocktail before retiring for the night. Although the menu looked inviting and delicious we had a craving for fries – not a menu item. When the barman asked us if we would like to order he didn’t flinch when we told him of our craving, and within minutes we were presented with a very large plate of piping hot fries. Now that is service!
BOTTOM LINE
If you’re looking for a centrally located, authentic Portuguese hotel at a reasonable price that has charm, warmth, character and wonderful service, then Heritage Hotel Lisboa Plaza is a great choice.
The rooftop deck with honor bar provides a welcoming area to relax and enjoy the outdoors after a day of sightseeing.
We look forward to returning again soon.
