For a stay at a quaint and charming 21-room, 4-star, boutique hotel in Quebec City’s upper old city, Auberge Place d’Armes is WAVEJourney’s recommendation. Each guestroom is uniquely decorated and the included breakfast is sublime. The location is ideal for exploring both the upper and lower towns of Quebec City on foot.
Auberge Place d’Armes is Located Near Rue du Tresor
Unfortunately for us, we were only at the hotel for one night – arriving at 11 pm and departing at 9 am the following day. The delightful two historic buildings that house the auberge (dating back to the 17th and 18th century) provide guests with a unique ambiance that is reminiscent of staying in a Parisian pied-a-terre.

Auberge Place d’Armes – The Loft
We stayed in the “Loft” room (the attic of one of the historic buildings) featuring:
- Two king beds
- Lounge sitting area with exposed ceiling beams
- A spa bath and separate shower
- Fully-equipped kitchenette with microwave, dishwasher, fridge, oven, sink, table and chairs
- Dormer windows that opened to views of the Chateau Frontenac and Parade Ground
Auberge Place d’Armes – The Loft
Note: Guests with mobility issues may not find this hotel suitable for their needs as there isn’t an elevator and there are quite a few stairs. The receptionist delivered our luggage to our room in a timely fashion, and collected it for us the next morning when we were checking out.
