This Salem, Oregon teenager caught WJ’s attention and we must say we’re extremely impressed by her stamina, endurance and athleticism.
WJ FEATURE: EXPLORING THE ISLE OF CAPRI WITH INSIGHT VACATIONS
A morning visit to Capri, an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the Sorrentine Peninsula, was included in the itinerary of our Insight Vacations Italian Escapade tour. This stunning, rocky island is located in Italy’s Campania region and lies in the Gulf of Naples, and on a clear day visitors can enjoy views of Vesuvius and the city of Naples.
TRAVEL TALE – IDAHO: BIKING THE TRAIL OF THE COEUR D’ALENES
By Ethel DeMarr
No cars. No hills. Smooth paved road. Gorgeous scenery. Sounds like a road cyclist’s dream. And it is. The Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes in northern Idaho is one of the most scenic and popular cycling trails in the western United States for good reason. With over 70 miles of asphalt, the trail stretches from the southern shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene, following the Coeur d’Alene River past lakes and through pristine forests. The trail spans nearly the entire width of Idaho’s panhandle through the dramatic and historic Silver Valley, generally paralleling Interstate 90. Once a railroad line servicing the silver mines, this “rails to trails” route takes you into the richest silver mining region in the world.
PRODUCT REVIEW: SCOTTEVEST WOMEN’S TRENCH COAT
The EasyJet coat helps you fight airline weight and carry-on limitations
By Lucy Komisar
We were taking EasyJet from Berlin to Dubrovnik. That discount airline lets you take only one carry-on. And that includes your purse, which (mine) is always chock-full of stuff. After we passed the gate and waited on the line to the plane, we saw a lot of women carrying purses as well as carry-ons. I said to my companion, “I think I have to pack all my stuff in the carry-on.” He said, “Oh, no, look at all these people.” Well, in a few minutes all “these people” were on the floor figuring out how to cram their purses into their carry-ons. Somehow, I managed. But lesson learned!
FOODIE FINDS: THE GREAT BOSTON CANNOLI DEBATE
By Patti Morrow
It never gets old. Strolling through the narrow streets of Boston’s North End, known affectionately as “Little Italy,” is always a multi-sensory stimulating event. From the sumptuous smells of homemade pasta dishes wafting from the small restaurants, the vibrant New England-accented banter of the pedestrians, to the colorful and festive façades of the shops and bars, tourists and locals alike flock to the area any time of the year.
But the best reason to come to the North End is to devour the celebrated cannoli. All other pastries pale in comparison and none better can be found. Anywhere. Period.
TRAVEL TALE – CANADA: A DAY IN REGINA’S ORGANIC WORLD!
By Habeeb Salloum and Muna Salloum
‘We’re all going organic’ a long time friend from Regina explained as we dug into organic omelettes at the Brickhouse Bistro. It was the beginning of our search for organic food in Regina and its environs. We had decided to begin our tour at Lumsden some 30 minutes drive from Regina. The Bistro was our first stop on our road to organic discoveries. The dishes served in this Bistro were unique creations – tasty and wholesome and made with mainly organic and local products.
SHOP: GREAT READ – THE BOOB BLOG A MEMOIR
By Linda M. Ball
WJ friend and contributor Linda M. Ball shares her story of dealing with breast cancer.
“I always thought I’d just curl up and die if I was ever diagnosed with cancer or any other life-threatening disease. But I surprised myself. I had more strength than I knew I had. I decided I wanted to live. Cancer is a bitch. My ability to find humor even in the lowest points of my life, and my determination to deal with the disease with as much grace as possible…”
