Wish You Were Here – Postcard From Uniworld Mekong River Cruise
We’ve got to share… the meals and dining aboard Uniworld River Orchid as she cruises the Mekong River between Vietnam and Cambodia have been excellent. The blend of Western and Vietnamese cuisine has certainly satisfied our palattes.
We start our morning with coffee and pastries on the sundeck just as the sun is rising (about 6 AM). A splendid way to start the day.
Then we move to the dining room for the buffet breakfast – a lavish affair with fresh tropical fruits, fresh fruit juices, a large selection of breads and pastries, cold deli meats, cheeses and smoked salmon, pho made to order, eggs made to order (fried, scrambled, omelettes, etc…), hot dishes – crispy bacon, breakfast sausage, potatoes, baked beans, and much more.
After our morning excursions we are typically hungry again (hard to believe) for the buffet lunch – delicious hot or cold soup, a variety of interesting salads, a daily sandwich, cheese selection, approximately 5 hot dishes with lots of vegetables, fish and meat options along with rice and potatoes. Of course there are wonderful desserts and fresh fruit – something to keep everyone happy.
Dinner is a 4-course experience that we certainly don’t want to miss out on. Creative starters that fuse local flavors and ingredients are followed by a hot soup. Then there are a couple of choices for the main course (fish, chicken, beef, vegetarian, etc.)… and that is when the dining room becomes very quiet as everyone savors the flavors and relishes the moment. Desserts have also been a huge hit and we’ve often times been tempted to order a second… but that would just be too much of a good thing!
Happy Travels!
