Wish You Were Here – Postcard From Sa Dec, Vietnam
This afternoon we enjoyed another included excursion as part of our Uniworld Timeless Wonders of Vietnam and Cambodia tour – to Sa Dec, along the Mekong in Vietnam.
The sampan’s returned to transport us from River Orchid along the narrow canals where we could watch local daily life in full swing. Our first stop was at a brick factory to see the process of making ceramic tiles and bricks from mud out of the Mekong River.
Next we strolled through the bustling local market along the canal in Sa Dec – so very different from other markets we have visited in Vietnam. There were frogs being skinned alive (rather disturbing), huge baskets of river snails (still crawling), fish jumping out of shallow bowls of water (it looked much cleaner than the muddy Mekong), and fruit and vegetables of every description (most we had never seen before).
We finished our excursion with a tour of Huynh Thuy Le House – made famous by French novelisit Marguerite Duras (we watched the movie “The Lover” on the ship last night).
Another splendid day in Vietnam with Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection!
Happy Travels!
