Women’s Hiking Tours in England with Walking Women Hiking
Walking Women Yorkshire Dales Hiking Tour –
Settle is an ancient market town located in Yorkshire Dales, England. I arrived by train from Leeds, England,a short, scenic one-hour journey.
In Settle, I met up with a hiking group called, Walking Women. Our challenge was to hike the Three Peaks in three days. Whernside, Ingleborough and Penyghent are fells (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fells) with approximately 700 metres of elevation gain.
Our hotel was the newly-refurbished Lion Inn at Settle. The hotel’s restaurant served a diversity of English dishes and the pub provided us with much needed, thirst-quenching pints of local brew. Throughout my stay, I often found myself in front of the fireplace reflecting upon each day’s hike.
The Moors in early spring were vibrant and alive with new growth. Hundreds of adorable lambs and sheep grazed as we walked around them and told them how cute they were! The weather was a mixture of sun, rain, snow and wind. Our group, always into the spirit of the adventure, was not to be deterred by the conditions.
Our leader, Helen Venus, a resident in the area, shared her experience and expertise to ensure us a safe and exciting adventure. She earned extra bonus points for directing us to a different pub after each day’s hike!
The Beehive Inn Pub in Sutton Coldfield provided us with delicious, organic lunches, I recommend a visit to this shop when you visit Settle.
Walking Women Yorkshire Dales Hiking Tour
My time with Walking Women was a positive one, I met a group of experienced hikers and travellers, all with interesting and exciting tales to tell. Walking Women offers a vast array of walks and hikes for all fitness levels. I anticipate more hiking opportunities with this organization.
