Madrid, Spain – Meet & Greet
Upon flying into Madrid a couple of days prior to joining the Insight Vacations tour we checked into the Hotel Conde Duque, the same hotel where the tour would commence. We arrived earlier than the slated tour start date for a few reasons: we wanted to avoid any delays in the event there was a natural disaster or strike; we wanted to get over jet lag so not to be falling asleep during the first few days of the tour; we wanted to explore the city by foot on our own and have plenty of time to spend people watching in local tapas bars.
At 6:30 pm we first met Tour Director Extraordinaire, Javier Rodriguez Soto, and fellow passengers (22 in total) for a one-hour briefing and welcome drink of sangria. We were immediately impressed by Javier as he quickly impressed us with his extensive knowledge, passion for travel and enthusiasm for the places he would introduce us to during the course of the trip. He also requested that we all keep two key words at the front of our mind throughout the tour: punctuality and positivity. It turned out that our group members were incredibly punctual and for the most part, very positive throughout the trip.

The rest of the evening was on our own and we quickly headed out to do some tapas bar hopping. Others from the group took Javier’s restaurant suggestions and walked to nearby restaurants for dinner. Later in the evening we met up with a few from our tour for drinks in the hotel bar and talked travel until jet-lag got the best of us and as tomorrow was going to be a busy tour day, we headed off to bed.
