16-Night Motorcoach Trip in 2011
Insight Vacations Treasures of Spain, Portugal & Morocco tour included a good mix of one and two-night stays in 4 and 5-star hotels. Some hotels were centrally located while others were situated on the city outskirts. Travellers to other countries should keep in mind that hotel standards may be quite different than what you are used to at home. For instance, certain amenities that North Americans take for granted in 4 and 5-star properties include alarm clocks, body lotion and wash cloths. We did not find alarm clocks or wash cloths in any of the hotels on this tour (nor any other we stayed at during this trip to Europe). Body lotion was readily available in all the hotels in Morocco, but not in many of the Spanish hotels. Also, quality of hotel amenities and standards of service that you may have come to expect of a 5-star hotel sometimes differ and may be the equivalent of a 3 or 4-star hotel.
MADRID – 2 NIGHTS
Hotel Conde Duque: 4-Star. Central location. Close to bus, metro and walking distance of cafes, bars, restaurants and shopping. Buffet Breakfast – Excellent quality and selection.
SALAMANCA – 1 NIGHT
Hotel Alameda Palace: 5-Star. On the outskirts of the old town, but within easy walking distance of the main shopping area and plaza. Buffet Dinner & Buffet Breakfast – Good quality and selection.
LISBON – 2 NIGHTS
Lisbon Marriott Hotel: 4-Star. Away from any of the main sightseeing areas. Taxi, bus or metro needed to reach shopping, city center and touring. Good pool area. Buffet Breakfast – Average quality and selection.
SEVILLE – 2 NIGHTS
Hotel Melia Lebreros: 4-Star. Modern lobby, but very old and not well-maintained hotel rooms and guest floors. A 20-30 minute walk to center of old town and Cathedral. Buffet Breakfast – Very good quality and selection.
TANGIER – 1 NIGHT
Hotel Andalucia Golf: 5-Star. Very nice, clean, modern and new hotel with excellent service and nice pool. Lovely bathroom amenities. Buffet Dinner & Buffet Breakfast – Excellent quality and selection.
FES – 2 NIGHTS
Palais Medina Hotel & Spa: 5-Star. Excellent service, clean, modern, top-notch service in a new hotel with a fantastic pool area. First-rate bathroom amenities. Buffet Dinner & Buffet Breakfast – Excellent quality and selection.
MARRAKESH – 2 NIGHTS
Le Meridien N’Fis Hotel: 5-Star. Very good service. Nice amenities and clean rooms. Older hotel with nice pool area and interesting art work throughout the buildings. Buffet Dinner & Buffet Breakfast – Good quality and selection.
RABAT – 1 NIGHT
Golden Tulip Farah: 4-Star. Very clean smaller hotel near the medina with friendly service and a wonderful rooftop pool and bar. Buffet Dinner & Buffet Breakfast – Good quality and selection.
TORREMOLINOS – 1 NIGHT
Hotel Melia Costa del Sol: 4-Star. Large, clean, well-maintained hotel situated directly across the road from the beach. Good pool. Buffet Breakfast – Excellent quality and selection.
GRANADA – 1 NIGHT
Saray Hotel: 4-Star. Very nice, clean, modern hotel. Within walking distance of restaurants, bars, shopping. Lovely pool area. Buffet Breakfast – Good quality and selection.
MADRID – 1 NIGHT
Occidental Miguel Angel Hotel: 5-Star. Very large, older hotel not far from the Prado Museum. A quick taxi ride to the Plaza Major and tourist sites. Good selection and quality of bathroom amenities. Buffet Breakfast – Very good quality and selection.
