Destination Pyrenees – Soft-Adventures and Experiences in Ariege
Destination Pyrenees – Soft-Adventures and Experiences in Ariege
In June, WAVEJourney is heading to Ariege Pyrenees in France. Discover what soft-adventures The Adventure Creators have arranged for us to experience during our 6-night itinerary in this splendid region of France. We’re excited!
ABOUT THE ADVENTURE CREATORS
Over the past couple of months, we’ve chatted quite a bit with Penny from The Adventure Creators and told her the sort of outdoor activities we enjoy. We then left matters in her very capable hands (hers is a very personal business in which she not only tailor-makes outdoor adventures and multi activity holidays, but also seeks to share something of the unique history and culture of this part of the Pyrenees).
We are keen to also learn about the special flora and fauna of the area – which includes the brown bear, ibex and bearded vulture – and will have this opportunity during our activities.
Another large part of The Adventure Creators business philosophy centers around responsible travel and sustainable tourism – which is a perfect fit for what we are also keen to promote.
WAVEJourney’s ITINERARY IN ARIEGE
DAY 1 – Pick up rental car from AutoEurope at Toulouse Train Station and drive 75 minutes to our B&B. Arrival at our charming B&B La Maison du Parc in Lacave, France
DAY 2 – A day of golfing at the beautiful Ecogolfe de l’Ariège
DAY 3
– In the morning we will be rafting or making a canoe-kayak descent of the Sarlat river at Seix. During the afternoon we will make a visit to the fascinating Colporteurs Museum in Soueix-Rogalle to give us an insight into life in the Ariege Pyrenees in the 19th century.
DAY 4
– An accompanied mountain hike with Penny from The Adventure Creators and mountain guide Marc.
DAY 5
– Our morning will be spent on a 2-hour horse ride on a native Castillon breed from the stables at Sentein. In the afternoon we will be on a High Ropes Adventure at Moulis.
Day 6
– An exciting morning spent on an accompanied electric bike ascent of one of the cols that will be ridden by the Tour de France in July. The afternoon will be much more tame with a visit to the UNESCO world heritage site of Saint Lizier. Followed up with an evening meal at the delightful Carré de l’Ange restaurant in Saint Lizier (which specializes in gastronomic menus featuring local organic produce).
DAY 7 – Unfortunately, we depart our B&B and the Ariege after breakfast.
HOW TO BOOK YOUR PYRENEES EXPERIENCE?
Our upcoming itinerary is provided thanks to The Adventure Creators and The Ariege Pyrenees Tourism. To get around the area and for easy access to all the activities we will participate in, AutoEurope is providing us with a car rental during our stay (picking it up at the Toulouse Train Station). With a RoamingMan 4G Mobile WiFi Hotspot we’re going to stay connected during our travels in Europe. This will be especially useful while driving in the Pyrenees – we can use the GPS maps on our mobiles and laptops.
Take a look at the websites for more information on how you can follow in our footsteps, and to find out what sort of adventures and experiences (there are so many to choose from) might be a good fit for you and your family and/or friends.
Cheers,
Viv and Jill
