Sunday: Amsterdam to Haarlem – Moored Overnight in Haarlem
Our driver collected us from a meeting point at an Amsterdam hotel at 2.30pm. Then we made the 30-minute drive to Savoir Faire which was moored in Haarlem. Once aboard Captain Chris Bennett welcomed all passengers with a champagne reception and an introduced us to the crew and ship. We had a short walk along the canal in Haarlem before dinner.
Monday: Haarlem to Delft – Acres of Tulips at Keukenhof Gardens
The morning started with a wonderfully scenic cruise past Leiden and through the oldest lock in Holland at Leidschendam. Our afternoon included excursion was to Keukenhof Gardens – home to the largest display of flowers in the world. We rejoined Savoir Faire in Delft, our mooring spot for the night.
Tuesday: Delft to Rotterdam – Hand-Made Porcelain
Our morning included a guided visit to the Royal Porcelain Factory in Delft – this is where the famous blue and white hand-painted ceramics are made. Next we had free time to explore the city of Delft before returning to Savoir Faire and starting our cruise to Rotterdam – where we moored for the night.
Wednesday: Rotterdam to Oude Wetering – Gorgeous Stained Glass Windows in Medieval Gouda
After spending the early morning cruising to Gouda our tour guide escorted us to De Grote Kerk (St. John’s Church) where we had a local guide briefly explain the significance of the most famous stained glass windows in Holland. We had a quick stroll through town before returning to Savoir Faire for an afternoon of cruising towards Oude Wetering.
Thursday: Oude Wetering to Zaandam – A Unique View of Amsterdam from the Water!
The morning started with an early visit to Aalsmeer Flower auction. Afterwards we returned to Savoir Faire and began our cruise along the Amstel River, through Amsterdam, along the North Sea Canal and on to Zaandam. Our afternoon included excursion was to visit Zaanse Schans where we saw working windmills, the first supermarket in Holland (Albert Heijn), a clog maker and cheese factory. We spent the night moored at Zaandam.
Friday: Zaandam to Haarlem – Haarlem’s Famous Museum of Dutch Masterpieces
Our final morning of cruising on Savoir Faire took us to Haarlem. This picturesque town has a large main square which was once used for jousting. A visit to the famous Frans Hals Museum was included in our afternoon activities. We also visited St. Bavo, also known as the Great Church, before taking a little time to shop for cheese and other souvenirs. Our evening was festive with celebrating new friends at the Captain’s table – Chef Dan wowed us with a divine epicurean meal.
Saturday: Haarlem (departure 9.30am)
Farewell – After breakfast we departed Savoir Faire at 9:30 am and were transferred by minivan to Amsterdam Centraal Station (other passengers went to the airport or a hotel).
