The Nam Hai 5-Star luxury resort and spa is located in Hoi An, Vietnam

Our arrival at The Nam Hai was via a private transfer from Danang, during which we stopped at China Beach and Marble Mountain on the way – excellent way to spend a couple of hours en-route.

ARRIVAL AND CHECK-IN

As soon as we stepped out of the transfer vehicle we were greeted by the receptionist at The Nam Hai and promptly shown to seats in the lobby – one of the most spectacular lobby/reception areas we have ever experienced – with jaw-dropping views of pools of water flowing down to the East Sea.

During the check-in procedure we were offered cold cloths to freshen up with, refreshing ginger iced-tea rehydrated us and crystalised ginger and mango we available to snack on while we filled out the registration form. We appreciated that only a photocopy of our passports was required and they were returned to us right away (many hotels in Vietnam keep them until check-out). Our credit card was required for pre-authorization so we could easily charge resort expenses to our room account.

The receptionist also asked us what time we would like turndown service (7 pm) and morning service (10 am) and explained that breakfast could be enjoyed in the main restaurant each morning. We were also asked for our departure time and information on where we were going (we didn’t know at the time).

Within 20 minutes of arriving at The Nam Hai the bellman was whisking us and our luggage in a golf buggy to our villa – 4110 (the fourth section, unit 11) – which was conveniently located very close to the main facilities (restaurants, pools, lobby, library, meditation/yoga building, beach).

As we stepped into our villa the bellman showed us around and how all the lights worked, gave a quick explanation on the use of the espresso machine, explained the mini-bar and daily complimentary items (4 bottles mineral water, 4 beers (2 Hanoi, 2 Saigon) and 2 Chupa Chupa sweet treats).

Our fabulous villa was fitted with both an outdoor and indoor shower, desk, 2 sitting areas, TV next to the bed, safe – large enough for a laptop, 2 closets, 2 sinks in the bathroom, soaking tub, fresh fruit in villa, an iPod loaded with music was also in the room (great speaker system) and a good selection of movies were available on TV (not that we wanted to spend time doing that).

And… let’s not forget the most incredible and beautiful view out to the beach and ocean! There was also a covered outdoor sitting area with lounge beds where we could relax and listen to the ocean waves crashing nearby.

Our first afternoon we were happy just to spend a couple of hours relaxing on the patio with a wonderful bottle of wine before going to the main adult pool nearest the beach. It was nice to take a refreshing swim in the adult pool, but then we tried the family pool (which was a much warmer temperature) and decided that was a more enjoyable temperature for us to spend time.

DINING AT THE RESTAURANT

At 7 PM we made our way to The Restaurant (Western cuisine) where we dined outside as it was a lovely evening. It was fun to see the romantic setting for a private dinner on the beach that a couple had reserved (only 1 per night – first come basis). While Viv enjoyed a wonderfully delicious corn soup and Indian butter chicken, Jill was thrilled with her choice of duck confit – everything was perfectly prepared and presented.

After our meal we wandered down to see the pools and ocean lit up at night by spotlights and saw the outline of the couple dining on the beach – incredible!

By 9:30 PM we were back in our villa with plenty of time to read and relax before calling it a night – tomorrow morning we plan on attending the 7 AM meditation class.
