Have you had enough of hotels that nickle and dime you to death over incidental charges? We had, until we discovered The Burrard Hotel in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The Burrard - King Room

The Burrard – King Room

Although The Burrard Hotel is rated as just a 3-star, it receives much higher praise than that in our opinion. Sure, we understand that the star system is based on criteria that includes what amenities the hotel offers for guests (i.e. room service, shoe shine, laundry, valet parking, etc.), and maybe the hotel doesn’t have all the amenities that 4 and 5-star properties do (which all guests are paying for and most never use), but it does offer incredible value that is hard to match.

The most important things on our list when we stay at any hotel are cleanliness and maintenance. In all our travels, the number of stars a hotel has doesn’t always factor into how clean or well maintained a property is. So the great news is that The Burrard is one of the cleanest and best maintained properties we have stayed at.

The Burrard, a hotel rich in history, was originally built in the 1950s, but after a complete and thorough renovation in 2010 the well designed, modern, hip and comfortable boutique-style hotel is now an excellent option for a downtown Vancouver hotel that won’t break the bank (which means you have lots more money to spend on eating and activities).

What hotels have you stayed at (regardless of star rating) that include free wifi, free bike rentals (with helmets and locks), free phone calls anywhere in North America, free in-room HD movies, free in-room Nespresso machines, free spring water, free scanning and printing, free gym/fitness class pass, and a free in-room safe that is big enough for a laptop and a whole lot more? Stay at The Burrard and you won’t be paying extra (and often extortionate prices) for any of these items… Now that’s a great deal!

  1. Wow! That does look like a great hotel to stay at in Vancouver. Really like the Nespresso and bikes being included. Thanks for sharing this find.

  2. Wish I’d known about this last month. Was in Vancouver looking for a little known place to stay. Wound up paying much more than this for a stay at the Sheraton which was excellent. But something like this was what I had in mind.

    • Definitely consider The Burrard for your next stay in Vancouver, Patricia. If you’re referring to the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre, they are next door to each other.
