SMaSH Festival – Central Oregon Beer Week 2014

DETAILS:

Friday May 23, 2014 at McMenamins Old St. Francis School in Bend, Oregon from 3 pm until 9 pm. For the great price of $20 you got a commemorative pint glass and punch card to sample 12 (4 oz tastings) from 17 breweries that presented special craft beers for this event.

SMaSH = Single Malt and Single Hop:

We weren’t sure what SMaSH stood for before we arrived, but quickly realized it is an acronym for Single Malt and Single Hop. What does this really mean in terms of these beers? Well, this is a brewing method where only a single malt and a single hop variety have been used – it makes it easy to identify the taste each brings to the beer.

SETTING:

Set in the Huge O’Kane’s courtyard at McMenamins, fire pits warmed the outdoor space while beer lovers spent time discovering their favorite beers from the various Central Oregon brewers. Special menu items were available for purchase around the courtyard and it was also possible to order from the regular pub menu (quick delivery).

WJ TOP BEER PICKS:

Turns out we really are true lovers of IPA – Viv’s favorite pick from this festival was Deschutes Brewery Cornicopi IPA and Jill’s was Sunriver Brewing Blotter IPA!

This was a really fun event and one we will certainly add to our schedule to attend during Central Oregon Beer Week in 2015.

Cheers,

Viv and Jill
