Discover why Jean Wethmar is WAVEJourney’s Vietnam and Cambodia Expert:

Q: Jean, how do you write about Vietnam with such passion?

A: Vietnam and Cambodia tick all my boxes – salty, sweet, sour and bitter! Experience Vietnam/Cambodia through my eyes, and stay connected to receive my ‘Expert Editors Choice’.

Q: Jean, what is so romantic about Vietnam, and when did you first connect with the country?

A: Vietnam is fast emerging as the world’s latest luxury destinations.  Where R&R time out just happens. Where the service industry works, and where my French Romantic heart strings are tugged very strongly.

Her landscapes are sublime, endless patchwork of brilliant green rice paddies, long sandy beaches. Traditional charm and rare beauty.

In an essence Vietnam means postcard sellers, scooters gridlocked, constant honking of horns, silk shops, tailors, conical hats, boys on buffaloes in rice paddies, and plenty of wonderful Pho, not forgetting the cà phê sữa đá. Rich traditional heritage and very welcoming locals.

Q: Why do they call it the ‘Paris of the East’? Tell us more.

A: Tree lined boulevards; Baguettes, croissants, to rival any Parisian Café; Alluring silks and amazing coffee. Oh, and white crisp linen, dark wooden furniture, palm trees and warm seas, and you asked where the romantics come from? So much to see, do, taste, experience. It’s an explosion of senses!

Virtuoso Luxe Report 2010 named Vietnam as one of top three emerging destinations for high-end travelers. It’s the upmarket choice of very luxury accommodation and great value for money. Oh, and her amazing architecture – many of the colonial structures are an eclectic mixture of French and traditional.

Take a Cyclo trip down Phan Dinh Phung Street in Hanoi, and admire all her gracious old French mansions and villas. Don’t forget that extra shopping bag! Or Dong Khoi Street in Saigon. Either way… you’re in for a journey of a lifetime!

More About Jean Wethmar:

What is your passion? What makes your heart sing? Is it décor, or fashion?  Are you a foodie gourmand?

I discovered my passions, travelling and décor, and food early in life, and since being married to the same wonderful man for over 40 years, we’ve been to a few places. I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa; we immigrated to Australia, lived in Sydney for the first 9 years, aah, the city that works 100% always, we have since had a tree change, to Brisbane, to experience life on a golf estate. The golf clubs swing, and the birds do sing…

I don’t play golf… I’m a traveller and a décor passionate!

When I was a little girl…I’d find any excuse to stay at home from school, to complete more on my shoe box house. It would have the best designer wall papers torn from magazines. And I’d love nothing better than to rummage through my mom’s remnant scraps co-coordinating some designer curtains for little windows that had been roughly cut out. Well, nothing changes to our passions… We simply grow older… Passions remain the same.

I still adore décor; I’m still continually updating our home, my romantic Colonial influenced background, plays a huge role. Crisp white linen, dark wooden furniture. Wooden floors, white wooden shutters, and lots of palm trees swaying in the garden. Silver hip flasks and white panama hats and swaying palm trees, add the finishing touches.

Discovering Vietnam three years ago totally filled my heart with an unexplainable completion! I had arrived! I had found my ‘eureka’! Those French colonial buildings, the soft white beach sand, the five star resorts, and hotels that ooze a certain charm. The crisp baguettes, the coffee.. Served in blue/white crockery.. ooh, aah! Bring it on!

I formed an association with Luxury Travel Vietnam, who are Tour Operators based in Hanoi, fully registered, and privately owned. Together, we put the ‘Timeless charm’ into Vietnam. We are the only Tour Operator in Vietnam, Cambodia who offer fully escorted concierge services. The term “concierge” evolved from the French ‘Comte Des Cierges’- The Keeper of the Candles, who tended to visiting nobles in castles of the medieval era.

Allow me to be your concierge – together we’ll discover the timeless charming… Experience our fully escorted high Lux Special interest Tours. Our tours always include a specialist, plus a concierge. A Personal stylist, a chef, an author, or an antique and decor specialist, or a golfer, together uncovering Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, and adding greater value to your Tour.

Cape Lux Travel offers our fully escorted travel services to help those still wanting to travel, safe solo, adventure filled days. Small group’s 8-14 maximum with high luxury, 5-star plus accommodation, of course we choose Colonial influenced where possible. Our Tours appeal to those not wanting to explore Asia alone.
