Best European River Cruise for First-Timers

By WAVEJourney

Q: What is the best European river cruise for first-timers?

A: In our opinion, the Rhine River should be the first river cruise anyone takes. If you want to see some of the most spectacular scenery from the river as the ship cruises along, the Rhine Gorge should not be missed. This is a section that runs for 65 km/40 miles between Koblenz and Bingen in Germany. The spectacular landscape in this area is dotted with ruins, ancient castles and vineyards.

Typically, a cruise that includes the Rhine Gorge will travel between Amsterdam in The Netherlands and possibly Basel in Switzerland or Trier in Germany (if the cruise also includes the Moselle River). It was our first river cruise, and most of the major river cruise companies offer a cruise in this region.
