Beer Week kicks off in Central Oregon and WAVEJourney is in the area to cover events over the 9-day festival.
Highlights of the festival between May 23 – May 31, 2014:
Friday May 23:
- SMaSH = Single Malt Single Hop Festival at McMenamins Old St. Francis School in Bend, Oregon
- 17 Breweries; 3 pm – 9 pm; $20 fee for pint glass and punch card for 12 (4 oz) tastings
Saturday May 24:
- Mt. Bachelor BrewSki + Keg Jam, noon-3 pm; $10
- Growler Phil’s Brewfest – 3-6 pm; $10
- Broken Top Bottle Shop – 6-9 pm; FREE – tastings from GoodLife and Three Creeks; live music
Sunday May 25:
- Mt. Bachelor BrewSki + Pond Skimming Championships; noon-3 pm; $10
- Beer Bands and BBQ with music by Sweet Bonnie Gayle and food by Big Troy’s BBQ; noon-5 pm at Crow’s Feet Commons
- Voice of an Angel: Karaoke, homebrew info and the Central Oregon Beer Angels; 6-9 pm at Lava Lanes’ 300 Club
Monday May 26:
- Silver Moon Brewing – featuring beer-based ice cream from Addy Mac’s and beertography by Bend Brew Daddy and more from 5-10 pm
Tuesday May 27:
- Wing-eating contest; 5-8 pm at Pour House Grill
Wednesday May 28:
- Firkin tapping of Hulk SMaSH Too IPA; 5-10 pm at McMenamins Old St. Francis School
- Ale Apothecary tasting; 6-8 pm at Crow’s Feet Commons
- Worthy Wednesdays – Gelato samples and Randall IPA from Worthy; 5-8 pm
Thursday May 29:
- Central Oregon Brewers’ Collaboration Beer Release, 5-9 p.m. at 10 Barrel Brewing
- Brewers dinner, four-course meal paired with beer for $35, 7-9 p.m. at Three Creeks Brewing
Friday May 30:
- Dry-hopped firkin tapping of Kaleidoscope IPA – 11 am-10 pm at McMenamins
- Deschutes Brewery Beer-lesque: Tastings & Tassels; $5; 7-10 pm at The Old Stone Church in Bend
Saturday May 31:
- Sunriver Brewfest – $25, 12-6 pm at Sunriver Resort
Throughout the Festival:
- Epic Brewery Tour Giveaway – win one of three terrific grand prizes!
- Throughout COBW, McMenamins will offer a “taster tray” of four of their specialty selections: Hulk SMaSH Too IPA, My Sunshine’s Pilsner, Father Francis Kolsch and Back in Blackberry Red on Nitro.
- Bend Brewing Co. will host a Brewers’ Choice Tap Takeover all week, until the beers run out. On tap: Hophead Imperial IPA, Scarlet Imperial Red, Outback X Strong Ale, Big Bad Russian Imperial Stout, Raven Baltic Porter, “Mo” Money Session IPA, Ching Ching American Sour, Ludwig German Pilsner, Wicked Medicine Belgian Strong Ale and “Lovely” Cherry Baltic Porter.
- Tastings at Broken Top Bottle Shop in Bend; Free. 6-8 p.m.
