WJ Tested: Globus La France Motorcoach Tour Review Paris Day 1

Taking the metro in Paris is one of our favorite ways to get around this vast and exciting city, and our preferred mode of transport to the Pullman Paris Bercy hotel where we would stay for the first two nights on the Globus La France tour.

While checking-in at the reception, our Tour Director, Vic Keber – a witty, charming and incredibly knowledgeable Frenchman who has spent the last 12 years as a Globus Tour Director – came over and introduced himself and offered to assist us.

As we are very independent travellers we declined Vic’s offer to take care of the details and continued on by ourselves. But once we received our guestroom keys we did spend about 10-minutes sitting in the lobby with Vic, while he gave us details of what the evening and next few days would entail.

The 4-star non-smoking, 393-room Pullman Paris Bercy hotel is located across the street from Bercy Village (this is the site where Paris began at Bercy in 4500 BC) and is ideal for hotel guests to spend time wandering around what is now home to a very lively neighborhood where locals and tourists alike relax, shop and enjoy the many cafes located there.

Once settled in our guestroom, the remainder of the afternoon was free for us to either relax at the hotel or spend exploring Paris. We opted to hit the beach – yes, Paris has a beach. Paris Plages is the where locals spend hot summer days catching some rays without leaving the city.

Welcome Dinner

At 6 p.m. we joined our fellow tour passengers in the hotel lobby for a 3-minute stroll over to Bercy Village for a welcome dinner at Chez Bruno. While waiting for the meal to start, Vic took the opportunity to properly introduce himself to the group, and also gave us a short briefing of what our two-week tour around France would involve.

The 3-course meal started with a salmon quiche or tomato, mozzarella and pesto salad.

The main course was Basque chicken with basmati rice or sea bass with tagliatelle and green beans.

For dessert we could choose either chocolate mousse or tiramisu, and coffee and tea were also served. A glass of house red or white wine was also included with dinner.

By 9:30 p.m. we had completed dinner and our group strolled back to the hotel. Many of our fellow passengers decided to call it a night (thanks to jet lag), while a few hearty souls had the stamina to have a nightcap in the hotel bar.
