WJ Tested: Un-Cruise Adventures Baja’s Bounty Sea of Cortés Adventure Cruise – Safari Endeavour Facts

WAVEJourney joined Un-Cruise Adventures for their 7-night Baja’s Bounty adventure cruise on Safari Endeavour in Mexico’s Sea of Cortés – February 27-March 5, 2016

Un-Cruise Adventures’ ship Safari Endeavour was our floating home for 7 nights in Mexico’s Sea of Cortés where she operates in the winter (before heading to Alaska for the summer season). This expedition vessel has a shallow draft, giving her the option to go in shallow waters – where big ships can not. During our week of adventure and wildlife viewing we were impressed by the cleanliness of the ship (in all areas from outside windows to inside areas to the interior of our cabin), the comfortable layout and design, and we very much enjoyed the casual, yet somewhat upscale atmosphere.

With a maximum passenger capacity of 84 guests in 42 cabins, this ship has adequate public space so one does not feel crowded. The dining room affords an environment in which it is easy to pick a size of table for 6 to 8 passengers – a great way to mingle and mix over a delectable meal. The lounge is the main hub for indoor activity (especially at cocktail hour and during lectures), and has a fully stocked bar with bartenders concocting fun libations.

A coffee and tea station in the lounge is also where the Early-Riser breakfast with fresh fruit and freshly baked pastries was laid out at 6:30 AM. During Cocktail Hour at 5:30 PM the same space was used for the hors d’oeuvres.

The fully stocked, marble top bar in the lounge was a hub of activity from early morning (serving up made-to-order espresso-based drinks), until later in the evening when passengers relaxed with a glass of wine or custom cocktail while regaling tales of the day.

A small library filled with books from fiction to research guides was well used, and was a resource to passengers for identifying various birds and wildlife that we saw each day.

The sun deck area was used a lot throughout our day – from morning yoga as the sun was rising, all the way to star gazing before heading back to our cabin at the end of an adventure-packed day.

Exercise equipment on the sun deck included elliptical machines, a stationary spin bike, free weights and a rowing machine (which was more than adequate exercise for us between activities and to burn off scrumptious pastries and cookies).

A free 30-minute massage was included for each passenger and scheduled between activities for those wishing to partake.

Our Commander category cabin (#311) was very comfortable. The compact, fixed twin-bed cabin was perfectly laid out to accommodate our needs during the week.

Although the private bathroom is tiny, we found it more than adequate – and there were no arguments about hot water (there was more than plenty for both of us to enjoy showers right after each other).

For our needs, storage and closet space in our Commander cabin was excellent (luggage easily stowed under our beds), and there was plenty of room for clothes and gadgets (Viv used up an entire drawer just for electronics/cameras/chargers/etc.).

The desk and chair also came in very useful as a quiet place to do some reading, edit photos on the laptop. Plus it was great to get organized by using the desk to layout our cameras and gadgets for the next activity.

The two hot tubs at the aft of deck 3 were welcoming for warming up after each snorkeling excursion (even with wetsuits the water was chilly), burro ride, or hike.
