WAVE JOURNEY Women's Adventures, Vacations & Experiences ~ Your Journey Starts Here!

Deciding exactly which daypack will work for a 9-week
European adventure is never an easy task, but this
decision became much easier once I looked at the
ReSource Series from Osprey Packs. The idea of a
daypack made primarily of recycled material really
tripped my trigger and that turns out to be a key
feature of the ReSource series.
Although I couldn't make up my mind if I would take a
laptop along, I still wanted to make sure any pack I
chose was going to have a separate laptop pouch - it
could always be used to separate paperwork if the
laptop wasn't to be a companion.

The pack also needed to be light-weight, comfortable and strong enough to carry about 15+
lbs of gear, while being hauled around each and every day for many hours at a time. Turns out
the React weighs only 1 lb 12 oz empty so it totally fit the bill for a light-weight constant
companion.

WJ Notes: Water bottle on left is not sitting in mesh pocket completely as Viv had her lunch stuffed in the bottom.
Even when fully packed, it could easily stow under an airplane seat.

The pack on the right is the React and shows the padded back-panel.
The mesh bottle holders are large and keep bottles in place.

Osprey React Daypack ~

With a DSLR camera, point-n-shoot camera, camera lenses, a Flip Video, travel documents,
guide-books, business cards, note books, rain jacket, GSeat, 2 water bottles, small personal
items and carry-on liquids as part of what would be carried at any given time, a number of
pockets and pouches was also going to be a must.
After spending weeks researching and looking at a gazillion daypacks online and in stores, the
Osprey React appeared to be the perfect fit for the job at hand. As they say, the proof is in the
pudding and the Osprey React daypack did turn out to be the most perfect choice for this
latest journey. Not only was it comfortable with all the travel gear and added weight I was
carrying, but it came back looking brand new. Great workmanship on this product is evident - I
thought for sure that the shoulder straps would start to show some wear and tear, but they
didn't. Also, I wasn't sure how water-resistent the pack was going to be, but after getting
caught a couple of times in down-pours with nothing to cover the pack, it turned out the water
pooled on the outside and did not penetrate the material - more great news.
The React features:
- 76% recycled material content
two external zippered pockets - one with an inner zippered pocket
- an outside map pouch
- two outside mesh water bottle pouches
- large main compartment with a laptop pouch, organizer pocket for pens, two inner zippered
pockets - one with a key clip
- electronics pouch on one of the harness straps - slip in a mobile phone or iPod
- waist-belt
- hand-carry loop
- padded back panel
- weighs only 1lb 12oz = 0.79kg
- capacity: 1700cu.in = 28L
- dimensions are shown as length (height) x width x depth: In: 18x12.5x8; Cm: 46x32x25
- manufacturer warranty: 1 year
- MSRP: US$79.00
WJ Note:
The laptop pouch could also be used for a water-hydration system. Seems there is an opening
for a water tube to slide through.
Bottom-Line:
This is a great daypack that will stand up to lots of wear and tear. It is light-weight and holds
lots of "stuff" to get you through a few hours of city exploring, a day of hiking or months of
travel. I also found that it fits and sits just right and was a breeze to wear for 12-hours of
pavement-pounding in European cities with very hot temperatures.
