The time at any airport before or between flights can be noisy, uncomfortable, congested and
blood pressure elevating. On our most recent trek to Europe, we decided to hide out in the
American Airlines Admirals Club at San Francisco International Airport and boy were we glad we did.
The six-hour layover between flights was a whole lot more relaxing and productive than if we had
spent the time in the terminal with the masses.
This tranquil haven gave us the peace and quiet we needed to relax and regroup before our
upcoming 11-hour flight to Frankfurt. We were able to spend time on the internet (wifi available as
well as two free computer terminals); order a meal or snack from the menu (good looking food at a
reasonable price); get a drink from the bar (didn't cost an arm and a leg); catch up on the daily
news (good selection of newspapers); get lost in a glossy (a few magazines to lose yourself in);
coffee, tea, juice, minature-muffins and pastries were available to help ourselves to.
Bottom Line:
If you are do not have an Admirals Club membership (cost: from $350-$500/year) it is possible to
purchase a one-day pass for the day of your flight. There is a $50 fee for this service, which is a bit
on the steep side (considering most food and beverage is ala carte), but sometimes getting away
from the terminal for a few hours is priceless.
